Branding and AI

by | Jul 12, 2024 | branding guide, news

AI is making massive inroads into the creative industry. Here at Charcoal Design I’m taking a cautious yet inquisitive approach; there is a lot to unpack in regards to intellectual property, copyright and, well, just if, how, and whether to consider incorporating it in my branding projects.

One thing is certain; AI is not going away. It will change the branding and design space beyond anything imaginable. My challenge is to keep a level head and not get carried away with the hype.

Here’s the thing: AI holds immense potential to streamline certain design tasks, freeing up valuable time for the more strategic and creative aspects of branding. For me, though, I need to explore how it can integrate into my creative process without affecting my idea generation process. I can perhaps see it as a tool for creating mockups. So, exciting things to come. My next AI post will outline where an how I’ve been exploring AI and where I’ve been implementing it—in very small steps I might add—into my project processes.

However, there’s a crucial human element to branding that AI simply can’t replicate. Branding goes beyond aesthetics; it’s about capturing the essence of a business, its story, and its target audience. It’s about understanding the subtle nuances that make a brand unique and crafting a visual identity that resonates on an emotional level. AI can’t replace the in-depth client conversations, the back-and-forth ideation process, or the intuitive understanding a designer develops for a brand after diving deep into its core values.

Stay tuned for my take on AI and what you can expect when I’m creating. One thing is for sure; I’ll be up front about where any AI is used in any of my services. And I can categorically say that my concept development process will always be grounded in learning about a business first-hand, and creating solutions based on those explorations. I don’t believe there is any quick AI-fix that will see the nuances of a business, its traits, and the x-factor that needs to be unearthed to create visual branding that is a perfect fit.

Again, a lot to unpack.

If you have any questions about it please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I’d be glad to answer your query.
